Quality

TRS puts quality at the forefront of its activities, realizing that the validity of the medical record's contents are vital to patient care, patient safety, and continuity of care.  There is no room for error in medical transcription.  TRS uses the guidelines set forth in the AAMT (AHDI) Metrics for Measuring Quality in Medical Transcription, the AAMT Statement on Quality Assurance for Medical Transcription, the AAMT Book of Style for Medical Transcription, 2nd Edition, and our own TRS Style Supplement in both our QA scoring process and in our continuing education efforts. Please note that we will be adapting our QA program to the new AHDI (formerly AAMT) Book of Style for Medical Transcription, 3rd Edition, by the end of 2008.

Our company has a strong Quality Assurance program that utilizes quarterly audits for each employee.  Audits are performed on reports chosen at random each quarter.  These quality audits ensure that quality standards are being upheld by each employee for the benefit of the company's client base.

The fundamentals of the company's Quality Assurance measures are set in place from the first contact a potential employee has with the company.  An extensive online knowledge test is offered.  Those whose scores on the knowledge test meet or exceed standards established by the company are subsequently offered testing encompassing several types of reports with a variety of dictators.  Following successful completion of these tests, the candidate may be offered a position with the company.   When an employee is hired, all work produced is reviewed by a member of the QA team before being sent to the client, with mentoring and consistent feedback given to the employee, until the employee reaches a consistent minimum score of 98% accuracy. This same process is followed with cross-training opportunities provided to established employees, in order to augment workflow and enable growth opportunities. The feedback process enables the MT to improve their knowledge and skill set as they apply that feedback to their everyday work environment.

The TRS QA staff members are carefully chosen, where possible with candidates from within the transcription staff as a part of the career path offered by the company. Care is taken in the hiring process to guarantee that potential QA Editors are sympathetic to the role of the transcriptionist, and to ensure that they realize they are in the role of educator and mentor. This philosophy allows the MTs to interact with the QA team in a manner that encourages their professional growth.  All QA team members are required to become Certified Medical Transcriptionists (CMT) by June 2008. All QA staff maintain an annual membership in AHDI.
